Fish Feed in Ghana
Where do I get fish feed in Ghana? How do I know this feed is the best, we give you our unbiased opinion based on years of fish farming in Ghana. Let’s dive in!
When it comes to fish farming in Ghana, the quality of the fish feed you use can be the difference between success and failure. The right fish feed can ensure your fish are healthy, grow quickly, and ultimately lead to better profit margins.
However, with so many fish feed options available in the Ghanaian market, how do you know which one is the best for your farm? After extensive research and practical experience on our own fish farm, we’ve come to the conclusion that there is one fish feed that stands out from the rest.
There are 2 categories of fish feeds in Ghana, the first category is the ones that are locally produced, and the second is imported feeds. Kindly note that in this assessment of the best fish feed in Ghana, we are not only considering the unit cost of the feed, but also the feed-to-weight conversion ratios.
A fish feed may be cheaper in the market, but is it easily digestible for your fish? Does it give you the best feed-to-weight ratio, does it increase your profit margins?
The feed-to-weight ratio is the weight of feed you need to give a fish for it to become 1 kg. for example, if you give the fish 1kg weight of feed, and it grows to 1 kg, then you have a 1:1 fish feed-to-weight ratio.
On the market today, we have a fish feed, that can provide you with a 1:5 feed-to-weight ratio, these forms of high ratios can be detrimental to your success in the long term. Our goal is not to name or shame any producer or distributor of fish feed, our goal is simply to provide you with the best fish feed in Ghana, to aid you to make informed decisions that would help your profit margins in the long term.
Where to Buy Fish Feed in Ghana
Fish Feed Companies in Ghana
Aller Aqua Fish Feed
Aller Aqua was recently inaugurated in Senchi Amanfro, it is a company headquartered in Denmark. The Ghanaian outlet imports the fish feeds from Denmark and has retail outlets in Tema, Accra, Kpong and many other parts of Ghana.
Aller Aqua feeds in our experience, has provided us with a feed-to-weight ratio of 1:1, and have proven to provide some of the fastest growth rates for our production.
For our catfish production, Aller Aqua was able to grow our catfish to 1kg in 4 months on average, some of them obviously weighed 2 kg and above, cutting down our time to market, and drastically improving our profit margins.
Despite these advantages, it is also slightly more expensive than other fish feed products in the Ghanaian market.
Feeds are available in various sizes for all stages of your fish development. From the hatchery stage of 0.1mm to 1.0 mm and the outgrow stages of 0.2 mm and above.
No matter your feed requirements, Aller Aqua is sure to sort you out.
Raanan Fish Feed
Unlike Aller Aqua feeds that are imported, Raanan feeds are produced right here in Ghana, Ningo Pampram.
Raanan feeds is one of the fastest-growing fish feed brands in the country. In our catfish production business, Ranaan feeds provided us with a feed-to-weight conversion ratio of 1:3 which was worse than Aller Aqua.
Raanan compensates for this by being slightly cheaper than Aller Aqua. However, in our experience, that cheaper price comes at a disadvantage.
We have used Raanan when necessary, and our goal is not to paint them as evil, what we speak about here is entirely from our experience, experience from other farmers might differ.
In terms of growth rate, by month 6, all our catfish were at least 1kg in weight, with some weighing above 2 kg, which was awesome, as fish is sold in weights.
Enam Pa Fish Feed
Enam Pa is produced by Cycle Farms in France, in our usage of Enam Pa fish feed for our catfish production, we experienced a feed-to-weight conversion ratio of 1:2.
The distinct advantage of Enam Pa for out-grower feed is that it is bagged in 20kg packs while all the other feeds are bagged in 15 kg packs.
This offers many advantages to the farmer, as you are able to acquire more feed with less amount compared to the two others above.
Enam Pa fish feeds are available nationwide, with outlets in Accra, Tema, Kumasi, and Kpong. etc.
